Nourot Glass Studio Contemporary
Glass
Founding partner, Michael Nourot, was one of the original 16 students
at the acclaimed Pilchuck Glass School during the summer and winter of
1971. Nourot founded his studio in 1973 after returning from an apprenticeship
at the famed Venini Factory on the island of Murano near Venice, Italy.
The 1973 studio actually began in a small space in Ghiardelli Square in
San Francisco, and moved in 1974 to the small quaint town of Benicia,
CA. Nourot is a graduate of the California College of Arts and Crafts.
Textile Designer, Ann Corcoran is another graduate of the California College
of Arts and Crafts. She is married to Michael Nourot and a partner in
Nourot Glass Studio. She received her A.A.S degree from Rochester Institute
of Technologys School for American Craftsmen and is known for the
vivid patterns and designs in her glass.
David Lindsay came to the Nourot Gallery and apprenticed with Nourot for
many years and in 1982 became a partner. He is largely self-taught and
is spectacularly skilled at delicate Venetian technique as well as in
the production of deeply layered paperweights.
Few, very few, of Nourot, Corcoran and Lindsays contemporaries enjoy
working for such varied and luminary clients as pope John Paul II, First
Lady Hillary Clinton and the Bechtel Corporation.
A leader in the contemporary glass field, Nourot Glass Studio is the subject
of a short feature for television by Santa Monica filmmaker, Ken Grimes,
entitled Alchemy and Light. As the studio enters its third
decade, new forms of expression are being explored in art glass. Whether
blown, blasted, painted, cast or fabricated, the custom works for the
current year follow new paths.
